NEW CERTIFICATION AIMS TO MAKE NONPROFIT SUPERVISORS MORE EFFECTIVE

By August 8, 2018November 29th, 2018

The Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA), in partnership with 501(c) Services (administrator of 501(c) Agencies Trust), has launched Effective Staff Supervision in Nonprofit Organizations, a new dynamic and engaging certification offered to nonprofit supervisors. The course is part of the NLA’s industry leading Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential and can be taken as a stand-alone certificate. Effective Staff Supervision provides the knowledge and tools needed to excel and to expand the strengths of supervisors. Offered online, learners will have the opportunity to interact with the course facilitator, as well as their peers, as they add and augment critical skills over eight intense weeks.

Effective Staff Supervision in Nonprofit Organizations is an online e-certificate program focused on building both the hard and soft skills needed for effective staff supervision. The certificate focuses on topics such as risk mitigation; hiring best practices; interviewing like a pro; delegation; employee recruitment, retention and engagement; team building; and recognition.

“We’ve developed a great foundation for new supervisors and a great refresher for experienced ones,” said Susan T. Schmidt, CNP, President, Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. “More often than not, outstanding nonprofit professionals are promoted to a supervisory role but never given the time or education they need to be an effective team leader. We’re also grateful for the financial support of 501(c) Services to assist the development of this program.”

Far too many nonprofits make the mistake of assigning staff to manage others without also providing the training and resources they need to succeed. New supervisors frequently discover they don’t know what they need to know to be successful. The potential consequences? Poor morale, disengaged employees, high turnover and even the risk of lawsuits. This course has been designed to correct such knowledge deficits.

“We’ve been offering a similar program to our nonprofit clients for over a decade to help mitigate turnover costs,” said Darren Bowman, CEO, 501(c) Services. “We’re excited that our friends at the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance decided to create a sector-wide program based on our original subject matter under their industry leading CNP credential. We are confident that the program will make nonprofit supervisors stronger team leaders.”
