OREGON INCREASES UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

By July 6, 2016Blog

Oregon has increased the maximum weekly benefit for those receiving unemployment benefits in the state. The maximum weekly benefit amount workers are can receive has risen from $567 to $590. The minimum amount is also increasing to $138 from $133.

The change affects only new unemployment insurance claims filed on or after July 3, 2016. Those with active or existing unemployment claims are not eligible for the increase.

The Oregon Employment Department recalculates the maximum and minimum amounts of unemployment insurance benefits people can receive each week every year. The amounts are set as percentages of the average weekly wage earned by workers in the state. Higher wage growth in 2015 over 2014 prompted the increase.
